The recent death of my uncle made me realize that life is indeed too short for us to cherish. He was brought to the hospital last last Friday, September 15, 2006. He was confined and was given some tests in order for the doctors to know about his disease. The following day, September 16, 2006, he was diagnosed with leukemia. We visited him on the 17th, and when I got to see him, I felt a sense of assurance for I thought that he would be all right. During that day, inside the white painted hospital room, I felt happy not only because I was able to talk to him but because I was also able to see him walk around, and this made me feel that he was getting better. On Monday, the 18th of September, 7:00 pm, I was at our org activity when I received an urgent call from my mom. She was in a hurry while talking to me, saying that we should rush to the hospital for my uncle was to be brought to the ICU. When we got there, what I saw seemed to be a movie set. People were crying so hard and on their faces were expressions of shock and disbelief for my uncle was in comatose and everything just seemed to happen so quickly. The day before, I saw him walking around and all of a sudden I saw my uncle in a deep slumber with tubes connected to his nose and mouth. I was surprised for I was not prepared to face this kind of unexpected situation. He was still in comatose for the next few days, until came Friday, September 22nd, I read a text message saying that he had just passed away. I didn’t know what to feel then for I was just caught in that blank state of shock, not knowing what to do or how to react to what had just happened. I didn’t think that a person’s death would come that easily. I guess that if things unpredictable such as this could happen and end in just a snap, there would be a lot of things that I would have wished to do. Now, I am driven to try to do everything I want to do, for instance, joining our organization’s play production. I know that by being part of that activity, not only will I be able to share and develop my God-given talents but I also gain a sense of self accomplishment. I believe that it is important for us to seize each day and to do everything that would make us feel the fulfillment which we are seeking out in life.

the story of the orange colored grapes
once upon a time, there was a little boy who loved grapes so much.
he loved drinking grape juice, he loved eating bread with grape jelly. his perfume was even grape scented! he wanted grapes more than anything in the world.
as he grew older, his love and craving for grapes grew stronger. stronger and stronger it grew as days, weeks, months or years passed.
oh how he loved grapes.
everything he had was somewhat related to grapes! his favorite color became purple! he had a grape tatoo! his car was grape colored and grape scented too! he had his hair highlighted purple! his contact lenses were purple! woah. what a grape obsessed boy he was. he had nearly every grape related product in the world! until came the day when he realized that there was something wrong.
he had a neighbor who had a grape garden. he saw that his neighbor's grapes were quite different! his neighbor's grapes were ORANGE! why oh why oh why, he didnt know! it was his first time to see orange grapes! he went over to see if they were really grapes! and they were! they were genuine ORANGE grapes! he wanted to try and taste the Orange colored grapes but then, there was a very high magical fence which hindered him from tasting even just one bit of the Orange colored grapes.
each day he tried to construct ways on how he would get a grab of those orange colored grapes but somehow, all of his plans failed. he became sad and sometimes frustrated for he could not believe that there was something about grapes that he did not know about!!! he had to take a bite from just one orange colored grape! two years had passed and he still failed to try just one orange colored grape! he began telling his friends about this dilemma. his friends in return adviced him to talk to his neighbor and simply ask if he could try to taste just one orange colored grape. but the stubborn little boy was too proud (or scared) to ask his neighbor. in the end, he gave up.
he just settled for the common grapes like the green and purple grapes. though he lived a contented life ever since he gave up on tasting the orange colored grapes, he felt that there was still something missing. he still could not COMPLETELY face the fact that there was a rare kind of grape which he failed to try. his grape conquest was incomplete. this sense of loss stuck to him.
one day, he found out that he had another neighbor who had a rare type of grape. his neighbor had PINK grapes! wow! he went over to his neighbor's house, climbed the fence and there it was! the lovely pink grapes! and boy did he try eating pink colored grapes! his certain neighbor eventually catched this little act of theft but then, forgave the grape boy.
the grape boy became joyous for he had been able to try another type of grape! but what bothered him most was his self evaluation. though he had felt a sense of accomplishment in trying pink grapes, he was still bothered by the ORANGE grapes! he had to try the orange grapes.
then came a day when he was confined in the hospital because of a certain sickness called ubascion. the doctor said that it was fatal and he only had a few months left. the grape boy sadly looked at his grape scented calendar and felt a sense of incompleteness for he was not able to try the ORANGE colored grapes.
as his neighbors visited him in the hospital, they brought in different colored grapes, green, white, black, dark purple, light purple and pink grapes came in. still, there was a hollow feeling for he wanted orange colored grapes.
one day, he felt really bad and ill and so, his friends asked him what would make him feel better. he told them that he wanted ORANGE colored grapes. at once, his friends went to his neighbor who had orange colored grapes. to their surprise, the grape boy's neighbor was a grape fairy! so that was why there was a magical fence enclising the orange colored grape yard! his friends asked the grape fairy if they could have some orange grapes for their friend who wanted to try the orange grapes. but the fairy said that only the person who would be eating the grapes could ask for the orange colored grapes. if the person to ask for the grapes was somebody else, the orange grapes would just turn into snow.
and so, the grape boy's friends went back to the hospital and told the news to him. and it was settled. the grape boy would go to his grape fairy neighbor and ask for orange colored grapes. in a wheelchair, the grape boy was excited for at last, he would have a chance to taste the orange colored grapes.
they knocked at the grape fairy's door and out came the grape fairy. "how come everything that i tried to do failed? all i wanted was just to get a hold of the orange colored grapes?" the grape boy asked. "well, you never tried to ask for them right? " the fairy replied.
and then, the grape boy started saying what he had wanted to say for a long time: "now, i am here before you, asking for something which i had wanted to ask from you a long time ago. i guess i was just too proud or too scared to ask you for i thought that you would not share your orange colored grapes with anybody." he let out a big sigh before continuing his sentence. "i dont want the sense of regret to haunt me forever and thus, i am asking, may i" and then,he felt that his breathing became heavy.
"may i please...." heavier breathing with choking.
"may i please have an orange ccoo....."
and poof! an orange appeared on the grape boy's hand for he failed to finish his sentence.
this is why up to now, there hasn't been anybody who has tried to taste orange colored grapes.
the end.

Aalis man, babalik din.
